What the Michigan Supervised Driving Log requires
A teen must log at least 50 hours of behind-the-wheel practice with a licensed adult, including 10 hours at night, and hold the Level 1 license for at least six months before taking the Level 2 skills test. The log lists each date's day and night hours, the weather, the supervising driver's initials, and any notes, and is presented at the skills test.
The state's promoted app — and what it collects
Michigan promotes a free driving-log app as a preferred format for the supervised driving log. Using it is optional; the printed log is still accepted. If you're weighing it, read its privacy policy first. The app logs drives automatically using your phone's GPS and sensors — including location in the background — and tracks driving conditions. As of July 2026 its store listings and privacy policy describe collecting location and personal information; policies change, so check the current one yourself.
