How to fill out Colorado’s DR 2324 Drive Time Log
Colorado’s DR 2324 documents the 50 supervised hours required for a minor driver license, including at least 10 hours at night. Unlike a private working record, the completed and signed form goes with the minor license application.

Complete the student header
Enter the student’s name and instruction permit number. Check the permit number directly instead of relying on memory; it identifies whose hours the form documents.

Record each date and the full driving time
For each date, enter all supervised driving time in the Driving Time column. The Night Driving Time column is the nighttime portion of that same total—it is not added again on top of the full driving time.

Add verifier initials and useful comments
The supervising adult initials the date’s entry. Use the comments area for details that help verify or understand the practice instead of leaving the person signing the form to reconstruct it later.

Total every page
Check each page total and the final total against 50 hours overall and 10 hours at night. A page subtotal is not the same as the requirement total when the record spans multiple pages.

Sign and submit the DR 2324
A parent, guardian, or other responsible adult reviews the grand totals, then prints their name, signs, and dates only the back of the final log sheet. Submit the completed DR 2324 when applying for the minor driver license.
One date on the log sheet, with the night column done right
The single most expensive mistake on the DR 2324 is misreading its two time columns. Take 9 March: 50 minutes of afternoon practice on residential streets, then 25 minutes after dark on the way home.

Read across the row: Driving Time 1.25 and Night Driving Time 0.42 means 1.25 hours were driven, of which 0.42 were at night. Writing 0.83 and 0.42 — splitting the session between the columns — undercounts the day by 25 minutes and is the error that shows up most often when a log is reviewed.
What gets DR 2324 sent back
- Entering only daytime minutes under Driving Time even though that column represents the full day-plus-night total.
- Omitting the instruction permit number, verifier initials, or the signer’s final review.
- Signing every sheet instead of signing only the final back page that carries the grand totals.
How logged drives become DR 2324 rows
Colorado’s export builds one row per calendar date and does the day-plus-night arithmetic the form expects, so the subset relationship between the two columns is correct by construction:

Page subtotals and the grand total are computed from the printed rows, so a multi-page record cannot end up with a page total mistaken for the 50-hour requirement.
Frequently asked questions
Does Night Driving Time count toward Driving Time?
Yes. Night time is a subset of the full driving total. Do not add the same night minutes twice.
Which page of the DR 2324 gets signed?
Only the back of the final log sheet, where the grand totals sit. Signing every page is a common over-correction and is not what the form asks for.
What happens if the practice runs past one sheet?
Continue onto additional sheets and keep the page totals separate from the grand total. A page subtotal reaching 50 hours is not the same as the record reaching 50 hours.
Do I have to use a driving-log app in Colorado?
No. An app may be offered as a logging option, but the printed DR 2324 remains the official form. Check current Colorado DMV instructions.
